ClayWays Kids Pottery Camps
Summer 2012

Weekly: June 4–August 8

We are now limiting the size of our camps to a maximum of 8 students.

Kids have a great time using their creative talents at ClayWays’ 1/2-day summer camps from 8:30am to noon.

Kids of all ages can imagine and create in ClayWays’ safe environment as they learn the art and craft of making pottery. Our instructors are pottery artists and art teachers with extensive backgrounds in ceramics who share their expertise and personal joy in making pottery.

We teach children the 4 P’s of pottery—practice, patience, perseverance and play. While this is a fun camp that appears social, casual and at times chaotic, what you may not realize is that the kids are also effortlessly thinking visually, critically, analytically and creatively. Your child learns to care for tools, materials and play space, and to respect the work of others while creating family treasures that will be cherished for years to come.

As your child is engaged in creating pottery they will be honing their abilities to focus, be patient and persist at tasks—necessary mental abilities needed to achieve in school, sports, and later on in life and the workforce.

Refund Policy: Full refunds will be given up to two weeks prior to camp starting. Withdrawals from a class less than fourteen days prior to the camp starting will be given a complete refund minus a $20.00 cancellation fee. There are no make-up days or refunds for days missed.

Summer 2011 Pottery Camps for Older Kids (ages 11 – 17) will cover a wide variety of ceramic techniques for handbuilding with clay and throwing on the potter’s wheel. We will be demonstrating and encouraging extensive experimentation with decorating the pot surface. We are also excited to be offering your child the opportunity to learn about and experience the process of Raku firing. This is an alternative method of firing pots rapidly that has its origins in 16th century Japan.

Summer 2011 Pottery Camps for Younger kids (ages 6 – 10) will explore the myriad qualities of clay through a variety of fun and imaginative projects. Children will learn to build with slab, coils and extruded clay parts making hand-built pottery. Our focus is on building skills and not just a final product.

You can expect your child to complete 5 or more pieces of pottery in a 5-day camp.
