Roseberry-Winn Pottery

Bruce Winn grew up in suburban Connecticut. He saw a pottery demonstration at the age of six, and decided on the spot to be a potter. Much to the dismay of his parents he never once wavered from that decision. In the years following his graduate studies at Cranbrook Academy of Art, his work has been shown widely and placed in many collections including The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and The Swedish Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Michael Roseberry comes from the dry plains of West Texas where he started his academic career in botany. He then went on to study finance, history, sculpture, language and a few other things he's forgotten. A master's in French Literature from Texas Tech, and a 2nd master's degree in French Culture from New York University is what was finally framed for the wall. As a constant through it all however, he studied ceramics, developing a broad range of technical know-how and a strong aesthetic sense of the material.

The artists' goal in this body of work is to design objects that reach an audience concerned with beauty in everyday life. The objects attempt to draw the beholder to them through the use of color and evocative pattern. The artists carefully create original designs that are carved into low-relief patterns. The surfaces of the pieces are completely covered with the design so that pattern and form are immutably melded together and become integral to the piece. To further highlight the depth of surface, the pieces are finished with richly colored glazes that pool and break over the intricately wrought patterns. Function is fundamentally important as well; teapots should pour without dripping, and cups should be comfortable to the lip. Following this idea, the Roseberry-Winn line is designed for everyday use and enjoyment; all glazes arenon-toxic and the wares are safe for the dishwasher and the microwave. In this way, Roseberry-Winn offers design that fuses function with beauty; and invites the touch of the hand and the consideration of the eye.

Tara Wilson received a BFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000 and an MFA degree from the University of Florida in 2003.  In the fall of 2005 she began a residency at The Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana.  Tara was selected as an emerging artist for the 2006 NCECA conference in Portland, and was a presenter at the International Woodfire Conference in Flagstaff.
